So there are times when you might need to access pay sites which include classified research data. There are two ways to do this. The first is to use that wonderful intitle google search variable we discussed earlier. For instance - intitle:”confidential report†(pdf) Indian Market -html -htm -asp -cf -jsp … OR intitle:”confidential” (pdf) SOAS -html -htm -asp -cf -jsp
I don’t know how many of you have wondered how google’s bots manage to index so many sites so efficently. Well, it’s because most sites allow google bots to come in and explore them. So … can you disguise your lowly broswer as a google bot and access all these sites for free? Sure you can! [for information purposes only, which means ... think of the theoretical implications all you budding cyber-theorists, don't actually go and do it ... that would be ... too ... involved]
Firefox:
Type About:config in your browser bar (where you usually type www.sacredmediacow.com)
A bar will appear below it that says Filter:
Here, type in the following : general.useragent.extra.firefox
When it comes up below it, double click on it.
And type in the following when it asks you for a string value: Googlebot 2.1
If you want to reset it back to the original value, just right click and hit reset.
For Internet Explorer, the instructions are a little tricker. On this site you will a different set of instructions for changing firefox, a little more complex for the adventurous academic in you!
